"Greater love Hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friend" |
Gandalf, a man of many names ( Gandalf the Grey, Gandalf the White, the Grey Wanderer, the Grey Pilgrim, Mithrandir).
Gandalf was one of the most powerful of the Majar( lower angels) who were sent to Middle Earth looking like men, along with Saruman the wise. Gandalf was known as the Wandering pilgrim, or just the wanderer in many places of middle earth. (2). Like Jesus and the Bible, Gandalf was sent from a higher power to protect and save the people of middle earth. God sent his own son to die and save man of their sins. Gandalf, also give's his life so that the Fellowship may push on. |
Gandalf, who lays his life down on the line for his friends and the fellowship, was also given a second chance; as he is sent back to protect the people of middle earth. Only this time he is sent back ,not as Gandalf the Grey, but as Gandalf the White. Gandalf returns stronger then ever and he has returned as the white too replace Sarumon and do as he should have done. Fight for the good. For the Majar the color of the beard resembles power. White being the strongest and going down the scale from there.( CITE http://www.arwen-undomiel.com/character_bios/gandalf.html). The resurrection of Gandalf opens our eyes even wider as Gandalf can be seen a God like figure; the closest figure and easiest to resemble that of a god.
Gandalf was the wisest and was looked upon by the people of middle earth for advise and guidance , Sarumon was the leader of the high council but it was known by many who the true leader of the free people was and has always been Gandalf. Gandalf, having went through death, has the experience and speaks of the after life and life after death, much like a christian would, describing what Christians would call heaven; as he explains to the young hobbit.
